No. 345.

Sir,

GOVERNment hoUSE,

HONG KONG, 8th July, 1932.

Encl. No. 1.

2018.31

Encl. No. 2.

Qus. tel. No.

I have the honour to address you on the

subject of the proposed sale by private treaty of an

area at Repulse Bay, marked A and shown edged blue on

the enclosed plans, to the Hong Kong Realty and Trust

Company. The sale of this area 'A' to the

Company forms part of a larger scheme embracing as well the two contiguous areas 'B' and 'C', shown edged

red and green respectively on the plans.

A copy

of the particulars and conditions on which it is

proposed to grant all three areas to the Company is

attached. The area 'A' is at present an unsightly

undeveloped lot through which a stream passes to the

sea. It is much overgrown with brushwood and offers

obvious risks from a Sanitary point of view. It

would be in every way more satisfactory that it should be cleaned up and properly developed.

2.

Repulse Bay is the most popular bathing beach

in the Colony, and its popularity continues to grow.

Hitherto bathing has been from matsheds or bathing huts

erected by private individuals at their own expense on

small areas on the beach under annual license from the

Government.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P.,
